Food For Thought

Welcome to the second issue of the quarterly CEO, from CIO Pakistan, geared to give business professionals and strategic decision makers’ food for thought, as well as unique perspectives from across the globe.
The CEO of the company has been described as the “Heart of the Company” by one of our readers, and that can’t be argued. But at the same time, it is the CEO who is responsible for the company’s strategic thinking and direction. The CEO’s role hence becomes very critical, very complex, and very diverse. Professionals from different industries may have a different opinion as to what the CEO should really be doing and the job description for the above mentioned “Heart of the Company” becomes quite relative. It is this question that we explore in this issue that you hold in your hands: What should the role of the CEO be and what it actually is? What is the perception and what is the reality?
The above posed question is one that every company’s decision makers would need to satisfactorily answer in the best of days, but what makes the discussion increasingly important is the current economic environment that Pakistan and the world finds itself in. In such a situation where quick thinking and fast moving decision makers are the need of the hour, it is vital for the CEO and the company to be clear about their role.
