Surveys A sample set of 95 people what their communication preference was when getting in touch with someone for a business purposes: SMS text, Cell phone Voice Call, Landline Voice Call, Email or Chat. Surprisingly, 30% of the respondents preferred SMS; 40% thought that simply calling the person was easier; only 7% found using the landline to place calls was convenient for them; 17% found emailing convenient and only 5% thought that chatting was convenient or serious enough for business dealings.
In the emerging markets, where the SMS text trend is so much higher than the other parts of the world, a lot of work is actually done via text messaging. But there is no doubt that the cellular providers have played their role in working with international gateways and the regulator to make voice calls more attractive in terms of pricing, to give the Fixed Line operator, a run for their money. •
