Regardless of how many times you might structure your plan so that there is minimal damage, that plan rarely gets executed the way it’s supposed to. Disaster Management is nothing more than a set of defined processes and procedures which help to minimize chaos and continue the business. You don’t just throw together a plan of what you do when the disaster occurs, you also plan everything you will do during it, just after it and how you will rehabilitate back into the normal system once the effects of the disaster have reduced.
Seeing the lack of formalized and structured planning and the desperate need for it, CSO is hosting a Disaster Management Round Table on the 29th January where we’d like the experts to talk about not how critical the plan is, but guide the audience on the process. IT Security plays a critical role in how “clean” and available your data remains throughout any unplanned incident, disaster or not. How do you mirror your data on a regular basis and what those best practices are that you never have any downtime on your mission critical services? If you’d like to learn about these issue and participate in the discussion, please have yourself registered for the event (see the Disaster Management advertisement in the centerfold of this issue for details).
As for this issue, we’ve been fortunate to have Farooq Wahab, the IT Security Manager of Dubai Islamic Bank talk about creating frameworks that follow Best Practices, along with Jamil Goheer from Kraysis, who takes us through the critical process of plugging vulnerabilities in your website, application or enterprise network. There is a lot to learn, and professionals from within the industry continue to come forward with their ideas and experience and share them. Be sure and also see the IT Security Manager’s survey we conducted and the findings and results have been shared on page 22.
We hope the New Year proves to be a good one and that we continue to see progress and maturity across Pakistani organizations. If you have comments and feedback on the articles, please feel free to share your opinions with us through email or by commenting on the articles at ciopakistan.com/cso
See you at the CSO Round Table and if you don’t make it there, then we’ll meet again in the next issue!
