Who doesn’t know about Android? In fact, application development for the mobile platform has been on the rise with at least 3 Pakistani companies selling apps on a regular basis on iTunes for the Apple platform. As early as 3 years ago, a young company by the name of MicroMiles began developing games for the mobile platform from a little office in Karachi.
With the increased Android hype, there is even a heightened awareness about the potential that the mobile media holds. Android, for those of you who may have missed it, is the Open Handset Alliance’s mobile software platform. Omer Shakil, a software engineer at Google since 2006, conducted a practical session introducing young developers towards building Android applications using the SDK and developer tools. Omer Shakil took the audience of more than 80 through a non-trivial application tour and explained the various facets of the Android application framework.
The Android Application Development workshop was organized by Badar Khushnood at LUMS and was supported by PASHA, TiE Lahore, Red Bull, TkXel.com and CIO Pakistan.
