Ideally, this issue of CSO Pakistan should have focused on the political situation and linked it to the Cyber Crimes law that is in effect. The kind of correspondence and coordination that has been taking place prior to the Long March in Pakistan, would certainly have been an interesting aspect to cover, however most of the ‘stories’ and ‘news’ lacks credible, verifiable facts that can be counterchecked. And since we firmly believe in producing evidence that our readers can, quite literally, bet their lives and careers on, we didn’t want to dwell on that path more than we had to.
So we made an editorial decision to focus on Online Privacy. You might wonder why the articles in this issue have more of an individual appeal rather than something complex that the IS managers would need to use, but we have our reasoning on that one too – In the past several issues of CSO, we’ve focused pretty much online on the manager level and up. The problem, fortunately, is, that the managers already know what the issues are and often write in to let us know that they need documentation to teach the executives who are not necessarily technology professionals. To us, this issue is a way of reaching out to the other levels of management to explain to them, what the issue with privacy is. Why the policies that an IT or IS manager implements, should be adhered to rather than finding a way to bypass the process.
Security is about observing human behavior and having teams collaborate together, towards a common business goal. Throughout the issues of the CSO magazine that we publish, we’ll continue to reach out and learn from our readers to see how we can serve them better.
Do send us your comments and feedback. Also, we’re getting a bit more aggressive as far as the CSO website is concerned so please check ciopakistan.com for my blog updates on that.
