There are many things a CEO has to look out for. Whilst the CIO and the other members of the CXO profile have their relatively loose job descriptions mapped out, the CEO seems to be quite a bit more complex. The ‘executive’ or what some would also refer to as the role of the “executioner”, the Chief Executive Officer makes magic happen not just when it comes to the strategy planning and leadership, but also when it comes to the actual implementation of a task or process. The Chief Executive in Pakistan has a number of challenges to lead his team through and not all of these are necessarily business challenges. SME organizations will perhaps need to brace themselves for a lack of a fully-enabling ecosystem. All organizations will face the dearth of a documented economy, disabling them from addressing them effectively and efficiently. But considering how little is actually documented in terms of market segments or volumes and sizes, CEOs manage to wade through with flying colors adding further strength to a well known statement that, ‘if you can drive in Pakistan, you can drive anywhere in the world!” If organizations can be lead through these even-tougher times, there are a great many rewards to reap at the end of the tumultuous tunnel.
This issue we have an amazing chat with Shakir Ullah, CEO of A2Z E-Payments, a company based out of NWFP and working against all kinds of odds to make a dream come true. If Shakir Ullah can accomplish his project of the automation of traffic ticketing, then he gives hope to many people who question the rate of success. We’ve also got an interview with the CEO of the Universal Service Fund, Parvez Iftikhar, who continues to lead with inspiration and give back to the underserved communities across the country. And then a lot of articles and editorial pieces which address various issues of the Chief Executive Officer’s role, many which might just make you feel like some of the pieces describe you or your situation.
On a parting note, August is an incredibly productive month for Pakistan and instead of stopping to celebrate the Independence Day, we’re running all over the Web to ensure that everyone is standing at attention, driving more traffic to the leadership vision each of you share. We had the Kolachi Tweetup’09 (feedback and coverage in the next issue of CMO Pakistan), we’re going to be at ITCN Asia 2009 bringing something exciting for Dell through the WebStudio stall, a Lahore Tweetup and of course, our first birthday celebration! And oh yes! CEO turns one this issue!!!
Hope to see you at all these events so be sure and stay tuned to our groups and websites to find out details,
