Say No to Prevention of Electronic Crimes Ordinance (PECO)

[November 06, 2009:  Karachi, Pakistan] A panel of speakers pointed out the demerits of PECO in front of the media at a press conference in Marriott.

Four influential members of the society namely Zahid Jameel, Ms. Jehan Ara – President (P@SHA), Ms. Sabeen Mahmud – President TiEcon and spokes person Mr. Nadeem held a conference yesterday at Marriott to emphasize on the effects of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Ordinance on each and every individual of Pakistan and how this ordinance should be revised before being considered as a law and promulgated.

The basic constituent of the debate was based on points such as the presence of numerous loopholes in the ordinance that affected each and every individual linked with the usage of technology and how the ordinance was put into act without consulting the stake holders and needs to be built consensus before its implication as a law.

An appeal was made to the Government of Pakistan to consider the revision of the ordinance and to eradicate the ambiguities in the ordinance by the usage of words that were more objective than subjective.
