Measuring up in a Downturn

“The Best Marketers Fish where the Fish are” was the quote part of the workshop named “Marketing Your Software Online” organized by Google Pakistan, in partnership with P@SHA, on January 13 2010 at T2F. Badar Khushnood, Pakistan Consultant for Google, made a presentation on the topic which will help Pakistani technology companies to harness the power of the internet for promoting their products and services to potential local & global customers most economically. It was basically an interactive sort of workshop

Google Workshop T2F 048 copyBadar started off by asking if there is anyone who is desperate to market their products online and not surprisingly quite a few hands were seen in the air. As the main discussion began, Badar Khushnood displayed some facts together with a video, “Did You Know 3.0″ stating why Internet Marketing is important. “The internet is exploding as about 1.4 billion people have now access to the internet. Talking about Pakistan, it ranks 4th in Internet User Net Addiction with 18 million users, 11% of the population, whereas Pakistan is ranked in top 3 in the Mobile Subscriber Net Addiction,” were just some of the facts he discussed.

It was also discussed that Pull Marketing has a high demand at the moment of relevance as compared to Push Marketing. “However, there is a gap between ad spend and media consumption so it can be viewed as an opportunity too for the businesses,” said Badar.

The workshop continued by highlighting the importance of “Search” in online. According to a research, about 77% of the internet users search daily while 38% users search 4 or times in a day. Also, search is relevant throughout the Purchase Channel.

The Google Pakistan Consultant then showed how Google Insights and Google Trends can help in tracking and researching online trends on different topics such as choosing advertising messages, examining seasonality, brand association etc. Badar used and showed actual examples in Google Insights and Google Trends to explain the part. There were laughs all around when it was seen that Meera was the one of most searched topic in Pakistan.

Badar Khushnood insisted on the correct use of Inbound and Outbound tools to make your online presence effective. Moreover, the most important information for B2B purchases is the product information, comparison and pricing. When it came to designing the website, a lot of participants were surprised to know that the WEBSITE VISITORS are the main source. Google Website Optimizer is also available to test base the website design, layout etc.

In the end he mentioned the successful Google tools that are benefiting people everywhere; like YouTube, Google Maps, Google News, and Google Apps Premier Edition. YouTube is serving about 200 million videos a day. Google News is available with updated news from all over the world and on any topic. Google Apps Premier Edition can help you protect from issues like spam and other related headaches. One ‘announcement’ that made every participant proud was the achievement of making Pakistan the fastest map country with Lahore being mapped in just 1 day, another great milestone for the country!
