Campus Conversations Goes to NED!!
After the first session at FAST, the journey of the Campus Conversations continues and we carried a panel from the business-technology industry, to NED University today. The panel that faced 90 NED students at the CIS Lecture Hall included:
- Yusuf Jan, Chairman P@SHA
- Ashraf Kapadia, CEO Systems Ltd
- Kashif Aziz, Head of Technology Services at Central Depository Company of Pakistan
- Imran Daudi, IS Manager at Engro Corp
- Shoaib Shakoor, Head of Production, Karachi, TRG Tech
- Saadi Rauf, NED Alumni
Each person on the panel took a minute to introduce themselves – some companies and platforms were better known than others, but a vital mix of companies and senior professionals. Not surprisingly, as soon as we opened the floor up, there was a flood of questions posed by the students. Though there were a lot of points made by the students, they essentially revolved around a few:
- Internships and opportunities for Co-Ops
- Scope for RnD
- Job and benchmark for quality and salaries
- The curriculum
- The scope for opportunities for hardware/networking engineers
While we’ll put up a more comprehensive post addressing all of the points, here’s a really quick look at what the panelists are committing to NED students after today’s session:
- Kashif Aziz, CDC: From the CDC Platform, Kashif has offered to establish a Co-Op solution where CDC will work with NED to get more engineers involved with the CDC during the duration of their studies. Additionally, Kashif will also offer mentoring time for students at the University premises.
- Ashraf Kapadia, Systems Ltd: Offer mentoring opportunities and internship opportunities to students. Systems is one of the sponsors of NED’s upcoming Tech Elite and so he will continue his support towards the students.
- Imran Daudi, Engro Corp: Since Engro Corp sits atop 7 Business Units, their annual summer internship drive will involve NED, something their HR Manager has already highlighted with Mr. Raza at NED. Additionally, Engro will also increase their speaking/knowledgesharing opportunities at NED to work with students in finding opportunities that will help them in the execution of their career path.
- Yusuf Jan, P@SHA: P@SHA is already very active. As part of the Campus Conversations program, P@SHA can play a critical role in liaising the industry with the academia and continues to have its say.
- TRG Tech: TRG already has a strong alliance with NED and simply encouraged students to liaise closely with their placement office so that internship as well as opportunities could be sufficiently communicated (Umbreen? I know you had wanted to ask a question to TRG as to what the process was – In case you are still dissatisfied at the response, please go ahead and post a comment here so we can follow up for you…)
- CIO Pakistan: Since we’re media, we will continue to ensure that what is discussed, is shared with all stakeholders and communities that we have access to through Media. Also, we will be posting details about the CIO Mentorship Breakfasts on this website so students that participate in these Campus Conversations, can benefit from being in touch with the industry directly for support and supervision. Stay tuned for more details shortly.
There are lots of solutions and lots of answers – a little collaboration and a lot of communication will perhaps help identify, highlight and create alliances that were not possible earlier.
A special thanks to the 90 students who took time out to spend their Saturday afternoon with us, along with a gracious, sincere thanks to Mr. Shahrukh and Mr. Raza for streamlining everything there! We must also thank Professor Shahab Tehzeeb, who postponed a lecture so students could partake in the Conversation along with Akhtar Nadyme, Chairman of CIS and Electrical Engineering who enabled us to have the session there…
We wanted to share this initial post with you however we’ll update this page with a more in-depth look at what was discussed, so keep your comments coming so we know students of NED are reading, and so we can continue to keep pinging the industry for more solutions. Students such as Anas, Umbreen, Anam, Masood, Kashif and others.. Thank you for raising your hands and having your voice heard. We’ll be posting the videos of the entire discussion on this post shortly also.
Until then, this is Rabia Garib (with Shafaq Tariq’s assistance) signing out!!!

I am so glad that the page and pictures were uploaded so fast! Great Work Rabia!
And yeah I still do not know how to contact Trg-Tech regarding internships. I guess I would have to go to their branch at FTC. I hope I am not kicked out from there (lol)
And today I emailed HEC, PEC and the VC of N.E.D. regarding research platforms and Co-Ops. I hope they reply.
Looking forward for your updates Rabia! It was a pleasure to meet you!
And yeah.. Shafaq did a Great Job as well.. I am proud of you shafaq..!
hi
i m pleased to see the great people of rising organizations in seminar.
It was really wonderful conversation for me and hopefully for my companions too.
it is really a great effort that P@SHA and CIO Pakistan are trying to fill the gap and I am looking forward to a more strong relationship between the industry and the academia.
i m dying to know how i can approach all of them of different organizations/ software houses . kindly inform me.
In the end thanks CIO and P@SHA for conducting such a unique session/program.
great work….RnD matter is a really a good thing to raise…if each company setups an RnD even a small room with limited facilities…students are willing to come and do research..organisations can really benefit from this.

Commendable effort by PASHA n CIO

Somehow i missed this great session but em anxiously waiting for the video of the entire discussion
please upload the video asap ..
Thanks in advance
@Ambreen – Thanks for the comment.. Glad to hear the rate of your response to the session was so quick.. Please do share their responses so if there is something we can help out with, we can step in.
As for the TRGTech internship question of yours, I think we’ve initiated this discussion over email, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what response you get.
And yes, it was a pleasure meeting with you!
Thanks Saad – I had already mentioned this to Raza sahab at DIL when we were there yesterday. Let’s try and structure something so this can be PART of your studies, rather than an add-on burden. This, in business terms, is what we know as the ‘win-win’ situation for everyone..
Muneeba? No worries.. I don’t think there was room in the lecture hall since students were hearing that this wasn’t as ‘mundane’ as they would have imagined.. We’ll upload the complete video in parts and you should be able to view the first part on this post, in a few hours… The rest, hopefully by the end of tomorrow.
Many thanks!
The session was really helpful. I did need to know the whole idea abt R&D in our depart. I am thinking about writing to our VC at uni and then forwarding him the proposal for Research House at our uni like Mr.Shoaib Shakoor from TRG Tech mentioned a joint hand they have wid Nust. Maybe something could be done at NED too.
Hey ambreen,
Thanks alot.. but it was a collective effort.. i’d give the credit to you guys too for showing up and making the discussion as interactive as possible
Asalamoalekum
Well I missed the session that was few days before in NED … It was heard that many people from the IT industry were present there … The thing I need to ask is that How can we grab the opportunity to present ourselves or to give away our best possible to the industry… The internship criteria is based on merit by which the real talent is really shattered … so I would like to request you people who have arranged so much for us that you provide us (students) chances so that we can work in an professional environment , where our talent is polished so that the industry shines more and more …
Regards
Tariq Mehmood Khatri (TE-CIS NED)
Hi Anam – Sure.. that sounds like a plan.. Please let us know how we can help?

Kindly upload the students and faculty comment video in CIO seminar at NED.
I just saw these comments, so the reply is bit late. I did send my CV to the specified email address. Fingers crossed and worried now! I hope that I get some reply soon..!
Sorry Tariq I am replying to your comment, Rabia or Shafaq will soon reply to your queries.
I myself had asked the same question in the session. The panel replied that since so many students apply for such a small number of internships, there must be some sort of standard to short-list them. There is no better standard then their GP. We were selected in N.E.D. also due to our higher percentage in intermediate and many students were not.
They also said that if a student is sincere in his studies then only it can be expected that he is sincere in his work. This definitely does not mean that we must aim for rote-learning. But it means that we should maintain a GP of at least 3.2 and above. I personally feel that the panel was right in their approach. And we should put in all our efforts to maintain our GP.
Yeah It was a good session…
Thanks Ambreen – Tariq? Put yourself in the shoes of the employer. If you had a thousand CVs and were on a 1-month deadline to make a decision to hire someone, what shortlisting criteria would YOU keep? If you can come up with a plan of action for the companies, I’m sure they would be willing to listen…
Always remember – the GPA on the CV may be ONE of the things that will get you into the door – what impression you make AFTER that, really has little to do with GPA and more to do with You.
