Naukhez Arsalan, GM Human Resources of Siemens, agreed to hold a mentoring session for 6th Semester Electrical Engineers of NED University of Engineering and Technology Electrical on May 19, 2010. The meeting started with Mr. Arsalan sharing his educational background. Being an electrical engineer himself from NED University (batch 88-89), he was aware of the mindset of the students.
Serving Siemens for almost 20 years now, he described his services for the company and how he was able to move up in his career. “The limit you reach in this company is restricted by your own incompetence”. Those were his words (somewhere along those lines), motivating the students to always work hard.
Useful tips were given on how to choose one’s career path. What further education and skills one must acquire; all depending on what his aims and priorities in life are. Special preference should be given to one’s family in the matter of setting priorities.
A brief description on the kinds of jobs which are open for fresh electrical engineers was given. Jobs included sales, service, design and manufacturing. He described the kind of qualities one must have and the kind of temperament required to fit in to each of these jobs.
It was made clear that the selection procedure at Siemens is 100% based on merit and skills. Apart from just academics, one’s personality, integrity, honesty, straight-forwardness, ability to adapt and above all any further value addition a person has done for himself.
To conclude, he gave very motivational and encouraging responses to the queries the students had.
All in all it was a great experience for the students and Mr. Arsalan’s personality made it all more enjoyable.
All this over a glass of soft drink.
