procomAnyone who goes to FAST-NU everyday, wouldn’t find anything different about so many students walking around the campus today… nothing different except for the hype in the air because of PROCOM 2010. And so I took my laptop across to a few students and asked them what some of their projects were all about.

Lubna Essa and Mohammad Haris, two Freshmen from NED developed the ‘Surveillance Cop’. “This is a software that controls a remote-controlled car, saves its path and runs that path continuously. In short, it can do patrolling.”

Maaz Fazal, Mustafa Ali and Muhammad Abbas from Bahria University, Karachi are final year students and have developed ‘Computational Social Sciences’. “This is a complete tool for the senior management of an organization in order to enhance its performance and efficiency. It calculates trust, friendship, advice, support, decision within the teams in the organization and also calculates the maximum ‘clicks’ in a network it would take to find the ‘right kind of’ individuals. Clustering co-efficient algorithm, Edge Betweenness Nearest Neighborhood, Eigen Vector and Between-ness Centrality algorithms have been used to achieve this.” They explain that the project also conducts surveys on the web and maintains organizational hierarchies.

Syeda Tooba, Sidra Anwar and Farrukh Jawwad are 3rd year students who have developed the ‘Unicast software’. They explain, “It works on simplex communication and is dependent on the client-server communication. One server communicates with multiple clients through a chat application GUI. Messages exchanged via text and file sharing options are available too.”

Mustaf Mansoor, a 2nd year student from Hamdard University has developed the ‘Smart Accounting Package’. Mustafa explains that “The application is based on AJAX and PHP and manages the Accounts and Inventory of a firm. If the website is closed due to an untimely defect or irregularity, the project has the feature of restoring the last transaction conducted or last data entered.”

You’ll find more projects and updates right here, so keep checking this space! This is Farrukh Zafar, signing out!
