OOW 2010 Kicks off with Major Announcements

Mark Hurd, Oracle CEO, recaps yesterday’s major announcements of Exalogic Elastic Cloud, Oracle Linux: the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Fusion Applications
After Larry Ellison’s exciting keynote last evening, Oracle Open World buzzes with frenzy about some major announcements. These include: the Exalogic Elastic Cloud, Oracle Linux: the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Fusion Applications. Launching right into business this morning, Oracle CEO Mark Hurd addressed a packed audience promising more technology talk throughout the day today, completing the ‘launch announcement that Ellison started yesterday’.
With the acquisitions of Sun, Oracle positions itself for servicing an even larger market with ‘complete’ solutions where Hardware and Software work together to engineer some great solutions.
What does this mean for CIO’s in Pakistan? Lots. Lower CapEx to optimize OpEx is what its all about. To quote Ellison, “If you want to big business, you need to invest small.” The biggest concern that CIOs everywhere have, is how to scale big to keep up with the market and customer demands, and still keep tech investments small. While the scale for technology buying may still be very small in Pakistan as compared to other parts of the world, the sessions at Oracle Open World enable CIOs to understand how to achieve big efficiency, with small, powerful solutions.
