Isn’t that the question everyone has on their mind? And if opportunities exist, then why aren’t more people taking advantage of them? Now that’s a mammoth question perhaps too big to be answered in a few lines of an article, which is why the first lesson problem-solvers learn, is to break down a big problem into smaller bits, discuss it, analyze it and make it more ‘solvable’.
That’s what CIPE and P@SHA have done. They have identified a problem: Opportunities for Entrepreneurship exist in the IT sector in Pakistan, yet we are unable to inspire more entrepreneurs to take that leap of faith.
The first event, already taken place in Karachi, will be followed by similar gatherings in Lahore and Islamabad where CIPE and P@SHA wish to engage in interactive discussions with existing tech entrepreneurs along with university students and fresh grads who wish to be entrepreneurs and find out what the hindrances and challenges are.
Three parts to this complex equation: the first is the Opportunities that exist in the sector. We are already aware of these. Second part of the equation is understanding what stops or hinders the process of people to become entrepreneurs. The tri-city series of these discussions hopes to put together a collective focus group across the country’s geography to better understand these challenges and find ways to reduce, if not eliminate, those challenges. The last part of this puzzle is identifying people (ie: mentors) who’ve been there and done that. Once again, the gathering hopes to be able to do that and minimize the learning curve and the curse to not have startups reinvent the wheel each time they enter the ‘real world of innovation’.
