USF Approved Projects for Baluchistan

In a meeting of the board of Universal Service Fund, USF, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, approved of two projects for Baluchistan and Interior Sind regions to provide basic telephony and data services in the two backwater regions. This will help initiate more telecom-related projects and improve telecom service provision. Also, using new technology and with proper training, the locals can get online direct or indirect employment opportunities and the digital divide between Baluchistan, Interior Sind and the rest of the country can be bridged. The basic telephony and data services will be provided to approximately 74,831 people in 102 ‘muzas’ while broadband services will be available in 73 towns providing 78,000 broadband connections. Further, 206 Educational Broadband Centers will be established in high schools and colleges, and 93 Community Broadband Centers will provide training to all interested.

 

Ufone Launches Two Blackberry Smartphones

Ufone recently expanded its ‘BlackBerry profile’ with the launch of two new, very stylish and long-expected Blackberry Smartphones: BlackBerry Torch 9810 and All-Touch BlackBerry Torch 9860. BlackBerry Torch 9810 is faster and more ‘fluid’ with enhanced hardware and operates using the BlackBerry 7 OS. It also has a QWERTY keyboard for fast typing and a 3.2”, high resolution touch display alongside a faster processor, liquid graphics, HD video recording and 8GB storage. All-Touch BlackBerry Torch 9860 Smartphone also offers a fast, fluid BlackBerry 7 experience, with a spectacular 3.7” display. It also operates on the BlackBerry 7 OS, has an optical trackpad, Internet browsing is faster and seamless.  The Blackberry Torch 9810 is priced at Rs 49,999 and Blackberry Torch 9860 is priced at Rs 45,000.

 

Huawei to Launch Enterprise Solutions in Pakistan

‘Huawei Technologies will launch a full-fledged commercial marketing campaign beginning in 2012 to tap the potential available in various commercial sectors in Pakistan,’ said Nadeem Aslam Malik, Director Enterprises Business Huawei Technologies. Huawei Technologies is now all set to introduce the Huawei Direct Enterprises Solutions and ICT Systems in Pakistan. Via the launch, it hopes to target both medium and large sized corporations in the country’s public and private sectors. These solutions and systems also include a Data Center, Video Conferencing Studios, Smart Devices, Cloud Computing, Network Security, Digital Home, e-City, Virtual University etc. Businesses in Pakistan will be able to advance using Huawei’s technological support and grow accordingly.

 

KSE Suffers While Global Stock Market Remains Almost Stable

The figures released by year end 2011 show that the Wall Street Stocks which opened at 1,257.64 at the start of 2011 now closed at 1,257.60 at year end. Technically, that is down by a mere 0.03 points. The stats show that despite all the ups and downs and the turmoil witnessed in the past year, the stocks have not really been affected as badly as had been expected. KSE on the other hand started the year at 12,022.46 but closed at 11,347.66. This is in spite of the massive foreign investment that Pakistan allegedly saw this year. The tumultuous situation in the country, the law and order news which flows out have allegedly affected the stock market also. Indonesia and Philippines on the other hand, have been named the two countries to attract largest amount of foreign investment this year.
